Wisconsin will offer interim men's basketball coach Greg Gard a long-term contract extension to take over as head coach, according to Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Gard has led the Badgers to a 12–5 record in the Big Ten conference and 13–5 overall since taking over for the retired Bo Ryan. Ryan retired 12 games into the season as the Badgers posted a 7–5 record.

Wisconsin posted the job opening for the men's basketball head coaching position online and is required to interview at least three candidates by law. The hiring will have to be approved by the UW Board of Regents, which is expected to meet next week.
