West Virginia to hire Blue Adams as cornerbacks coach
Miami Dolphins assistant defensive backs coach Blue Adams will be the new cornerbacks coach for West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen, according to a source.
It’s a return to the college game for the impressive Adams who has spent the last four seasons in his role with the Dolphins. Adams helped Miami rank sixth in the NFL in passing yards allowed in 2014 with only 223.3 yards allowed per game.
The 36-year-old Adams was Northern Iowa’s secondary coach in 2011 and got his start in coaching as a graduate assistant at Purdue in ’10.
He had a seven-year professional playing career after being drafted in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions. Adams spent time with the Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons. He also spent a season with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe and the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.
The Miami native was a four-year defensive back for the University of Cincinnati. He set a school record with 12 interceptions in his career with the Bearcats and earned second-team All-Conference USA honors as a senior.
Adams joins Holgorsen after West Virginia went 8–5 in 2015, its best record since joining the Big 12 in ’12. The Mountaineers capped the season with a dramatic 43–42 victory over Arizona State in the Cactus Bowl. Holgorsen has a 36–28 record in five seasons at West Virginia.
