On the same night that South Carolina was handed just its second loss of the season in a women’s Sweet 16 upset, Notre Dame suffered the same fate.
The top-seeded Fighting Irish fell to the No. 4 Stanford Cardinal 90–84 on Friday evening, ending their season with a 33–2 record. Notre Dame went into halftime down 50–39, and was not able to completely erase the deficit.
Stanford’s Erica McCall led the way with a game-high 27 points on 12-of-18 shooting. Karlie Samuelson added 20.
The No. 4 Cardinal will take on the No. 7 Washington Huskies in the Elite Eight.
