Pittsburgh hires Kevin Stallings as next coach

Vanderbilt’s Kevin Stallings has agreed to a six-year deal to become the new head coach at Pittsburgh, the school announced Sunday.
Stallings has been the coach at Vanderbilt the last 17 seasons, leading the Commodores to eight 20-plus win seasons and seven NCAA tournaments.
He led the school to the tournament this season, but lost in the First Four to Wichita State.
Stallings replaces longtime Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon, who left to take over as the coach at his alma mater, TCU. The Panthers made appearances in the tournament 11 of the 13 years Dixon was leading the program.
“I am extremely excited to join the University of Pittsburgh family,” Stallings said in a school statemnt. “Pitt has a tremendous basketball tradition and I am looking forward to building on the excellent foundation that is in place on the court and in the classroom. The city of Pittsburgh is outstanding and I have a great deal of respect for the people that make it such a special place.”
In 23 years as a Division I head coach, including a six-year stint at Illinois State, Stallings has a 455–283 record.
