Villanova coach Jay Wright was named the 2016 Naismith Coach of the Year at the annual Naismith award brunch Sunday.

Wright has led the Wildcats to a 34–5 season and an appearance in the national championship game against North Carolina on Monday.

He has already surpassed his previous-best mark for wins in a season, which was a 30-win season in 2008–09.

This is Wright’s second time being named coach of the year. He was also given the honor in 2006.

Wright became the first coach to be named the Big East Coach of the Year for three-straight seasons early this year.

Kansas’ Bill Self, Indiana’s Tom Crean and Xavier’s Chris Mack were also finalists for the award.
