Texas A&M loses two recruits in one night after coach tweet

Two players decommitted and one recruit withdrew his interest in Texas A&M on Wednesday night in the midst of a series of tweets sent by receivers coach Aaron Moorehead.

Five-star quarterback Tate Martell, who is ranked as the No. 12 prospect and No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2017 by Scout.com, tweeted his decommitment from the program, which was followed shortly after by a tweet from Moorehead.

Moorehead later claimed his tweet was not referring to Martell, though he said his previous statement was still relevant in the wake of Martell’s decision.

Moorehead’s comments caught the attention of other football prospects, including four-star receiver Mannie Netherly, who had committed to Texas A&M in November. Netherly tweeted his decommitment from the school, saying he had seen “what kind of person” his future coach was and that he didn’t want to play “for someone like that.”

Four-star receiver Tyjon Lindsey, who has not committed to a program but was being recruited by A&M, also tweeted that he would no longer consider enrolling there.

Moorehead kept posting tweets as other young football players continuedtoreact on Twitter.

Moorehead then took to twitter on Thursday morning to apologize for his comments.

The Texas A&M football program has not commented on the situation.
