Baylor releases five signees from national letters of intent

Baylor has released five of its 2016 signees from their national letters of intent, the school announced on Thursday.
The official release will allow the recruits to enroll at another school without being subject to an NCAA penalty. If they had not been released and still chosen to play elsewhere, the athletes would have had to sit out one season and would lose that year of eligibility.
Baylor did not disclose which athletes were released, but ESPN confirmed the five were No. 3 guard Patrick Hudson, No. 25 cornerback Parrish Cobb, No. 30 offensive tackle J.P. Urquidez, No. 65 cornerback Donovan Duvernay and No. 112 running back Kameron Martin.
Scout.com ranked Baylor’s 2016 recruiting class No. 20 before the five players were released.
The players requested permission to leave Baylor after head coach Art Briles was suspended with intent to terminate last month in the wake of a wide-ranging sexual assault scandal at the school, which included numerous football players.
The releases leave Baylor with 16 players in its incoming freshman class.
