Alabama coach Nick Saban and SEC Network host Paul Finebaum got into an animated discussion over Saban’s discipline policy at SEC Media Days on Wednesday.
Saban stopped by the SEC Network set after his press conference, and Finebaum questioned Saban over his decision not to suspend players Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones after their off-season arrests.
Finebaum said it was ‘“debatable” that the players did nothing wrong even though they were not charged after the arrest. Saban said he refused to “convict [his players] in public” and that they were “innocent until proven guilty.”
Saban and Finebaum continued exchanging words off the air.
Finebaum later confirmed to The Advocate that Saban indicated that the arresting officers were LSU fans.
Robinson and Jones, who were arrested for possession of weapons and marijuana in a public park in May, were reportedly disciplined for their actions immediately following the arrest.
Saban confirmed Wednesday the players performed community service and met with juvenile groups following the incident.
