Texas president open to Big 12 conference expansion

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said the conference may add two to four more teams and Texas president Gregory L. Fenves is not opposed to the idea, according to Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman.
“I’m open to expansion if the proposal is a strong one,” Fenves said. “The conference is actively evaluating the possibilities.”
A Texas spokesman later added that “there has been no discussion about any specific schools.” Fenves tweeted on Thursday that he supports adding University of Houston to the conference.
The Big 12 stands at 10 teams and never changed its name after losing Texas A&M and Missouri to the SEC. West Virginia and TCU have been added in recent years.

Cincinnati, UConn, BYU, Houston, Memphis, South Florida, Central Florida and Boise State could be candidates for the expansion. For the conference to expand, eight of the 10 schools currently in the conference would need to vote in favor of admission.
