Baylor player arrested for stalking previously accused of sexual assault
Baylor offensive lineman Rami Hammad, who was arrested Monday for stalking, was the subject of a sexual assault accusation before last football season, reports ESPN’s Outside The Lines.
Hammad, a redshirt junior, is currently accused of following an ex-girlfriend to a class on July 7 after the woman had made repeated attempts to keep Hammad from knowing her whereabouts.
According to the OTL report, a different woman told Baylor’s Title IX office last fall she had been sexually assaulted by Hammad. The offensive lineman then confronted the woman about her accusation, and she requested a no-contact order against Hammad.
Hammad not only broke the no-contact order, he was allowed to play in every game during the season despite the sexual assault claim and subsequent complaints from his accuser.

Baylor has come under intense scrutiny this year for its handling of sexual assault cases, particularly involving football players. After receiving an independent report about its handling of sexual assault, Baylor demoted president Ken Starr and fired head coach Art Briles. Athletic director Ian McCaw resigned.

Baylor suspended Hammad after this week’s arrest. The woman who accused him of stalking said Hammad had been physically abusive and has moved out of the state.
