Movie star Sylvester Stallone helped out Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck in a unique scholarship presentation for a walk-on linebacker.

Before Stallone appeared on the video boards at Waldo Stadium to announce that the redshirt sophomore would earn a full ride, Fleck walked onto the practice field in full pads and a game uniform.

The 35-year-old coach then said that if Carson could stop him from scoring a touchdown, the team would be rewarded with no evening meetings.

After Carson successfully stopped Fleck, the coach directed the players’ attention to the video board for Stallone’s announcement.

Carson saw playing time for the first time with the Broncos last season, making eight tackles in nine appearances.

The linebacker played high school football at Harper Creek High School in Battle Creek, Mich. Battle Creek is about 25 miles from Western Michigan’s campus in Kalamazoo.
