Derwin James will miss 5–7 weeks after undergoing knee surgery.

Florida State safety Derwin James is expected to miss at least 5–7 weeks after undergoing surgery Monday on torn cartilage in his knee, head coach Jimbo Fisher told reporters.

No structural damage or ACL tear was discovered in an MRI of James's knee.

The injury occurred in the third quarter of Florida State's 52–8 victory over Charleston Southern last Saturday as James bumped into a Buccaneers player. He limped off the field without any assistance before being taken into the locker room.

It is likely that James will miss the Seminoles' upcoming games against Louisville, USF and Miami.

The team could turn to sophomore A.J. Westbrook in his absence.
