Report: Texas under ‘extreme’ pressure to fire Charlie Strong, hire Tom Herman
Texas boosters are putting the administration under ‘extreme pressure’ to replace Charlie Strong with Houston’s Tom Herman, ESPN’s Brett McMurphy reports.
Strong was reportedly in good shape to keep his job earlier this week, with Texas now at 5–5 for the season, but Houston’s stunning upset of No. 5 Louisville on Thursday changed attitudes among some influential boosters. Herman is now 22–3 in his time at Houston and has regained some of his early-season shine, as the Cougars got out to a hot start but sputtered some, losing a game to SMU that reportedly turned off some of the Longhorns’ base.
ESPN reports the bidding for Herman among interested schools will start at around $5.5 million in salary. He is reportedly in the mix for Texas and LSU, with other major programs potentially hopping in depending on which coaches move where in the off-season.
Herman, formerly Ohio State’s offensive coordinator, took over at Houston in 2015.
