Michael Jacobson becomes 4th Nebraska player to transfer

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) The attrition in the Nebraska basketball program continued Monday night, with forward Michael Jacobson becoming the fourth player since the end of the season to announce he would transfer.

Jacobson's departure follows those of sophomore forward Ed Morrow Jr. two weeks ago. Both were projected starters for 2017-18. Promising freshman forward Jeriah Horne and junior guard Nick Fuller also have left.

''First and foremost, it's always disappointing to have young guys leave your program, especially guys who are playing,'' coach Tim Miles told The Associated Press.

''It's understandable when the Nos. 9, 10 or 11 guys want to go, but when guys are playing, it's frustrating. The climate of college basketball right now, it's not as uncommon as we would hope. It's a more fluid society, and I think it's here to stay.''

Morrow and Jacobson, though natural forwards, probably would have spent a lot of time at center next season if they had stayed. ''That wasn't their desired role,'' Miles said.

Nebraska returns a center in Jordy Tshimanga and forwards in Isaiah Roby, Jack McVeigh and Georgetown transfer Isaac Copeland.

Miles said it's critical that he land another center in the signing period that starts Wednesday. Miles said he also needs another perimeter shooter.

Jacobson started all 31 games in his sophomore season and averaged 6.0 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Cornhuskers, who were 12-19 overall and tied for 12th in the Big Ten at 6-12.

''This was a very difficult decision for me, but I feel it is necessary at this time,'' Jacobson said. ''I want to thank the Nebraska fans for their incredible support. I also want to say thank you to Coach Miles and his staff, my teammates and the athletics department. I will always be grateful for the opportunity I was given here at Nebraska.''

Miles said the departures should not be a devastating blow for next season.

''I get to see guys working out every day, and I know we need more. We're working on it,'' he said. ''I'm happy with the group we have here, and I'm confident we'll bring in enough help to put us on the winning track.''
