Basketball World Remembers Former Indiana, Texas Tech Coach Bob Knight

Former Indiana, Texas Tech and Army head coach Bob Knight’s family announced on Wednesday that the legendary coach died at the age of 83.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share that Coach Bob Knight passed away at his home in Bloomington surrounded by his family,” the statement said. “We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as Coach requested a private family gathering, which is being honored. We will continue to celebrate his life and remember him, today and forever as a beloved Husband, Father, Coach, and Friend.”

His 902 victories over 42 seasons ranks the sixth most in NCAA Division I men’s college basketball history.

Tributes for the three-time national champion poured out shortly after the news was shared on a social media account managed by Knight Legacy.

Indiana University, where Knight coached from 1971–2000 and won his three national titles, posted a tribute video for the coach.

Many media members shared stories about how Knight impacted their lives either covering him or watching him coach college basketball for decades.
