Florida Football Under Investigation for Unspecified NCAA Violations

Florida had a rough enough year on the field in 2023, limping to a 5–7 record that constituted its third straight losing season.

The Gators, however, may soon have even bigger problems.

Coach Billy Napier's program is under investigation by the NCAA, according to documents obtained Friday by Matt Baker of The Tampa Bay Times.

"The investigation has been underway since at least June 9 when the NCAA sent [Florida] president Ben Sasse a notice of inquiry,” Baker reported.

The precise nature of the allegations were not spelled out in the documentation, per Baker.

“We have been and will continue to cooperate with the NCAA,” Florida athletics spokesperson Steve McClain told The Times. “We hold ourselves to high standards of excellence and integrity on and off the field. Because we follow NCAA policies about maintaining confidentiality, we are unable to offer additional comments.”

Florida's football program was last sanctioned for NCAA violations in 2020, when college sports's governing body put the team on probation for a year for impermissible contact with recruits under coach Dan Mullen.
