There is never a break in action for Notre Dame football. During this past week, we saw a litter of new offers extended in the 2024, 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes. The transfer portal was also a piece of news during the last few days as well.

Let's recap all the latest happenings in Irish recruiting. Even with a break in on field action, it doesn’t look to slow down anytime soon, especially with several official visits getting set for June.

LATEST RECRUITING NEWS

With June just a few weeks away, 2024 recruits are busy finalizing official visits. One of the most interesting visitors is 2024 Schertz (Texas) Samuel Clemens safety Paul Mencke Jr., who is making the return trip to campus after visiting last month. Mencke, whose father played football and basketball at Washington State, is one of the more intriguing athletes at safety on the board. He’s a high academic kid who Notre Dame should have a shot with down the stretch.

Another 2024 defender that the staff will be welcoming in June is Clearwater (Fla.) Academy International defensive tackle Sean Sevillano Jr., who is a massive interior defensive lineman at 6-2 and 300 pounds. The Florida native visited back in March. Keeping tabs on how this upcoming official visits go will be very interesting to evaluate.

Even with rumors of Notre Dame being settled on taking one tight end in the 2024 class, Ainsworth (Neb.) High School star Carter Nelson has still set an official visit date for June. The 6-5, 210-pound athlete is one of the more gifted recruits in the 2024 recruiting class. There has been substantial interest for some time now and it will be interesting to see how Notre Dame handles this recruitment. Getting elite talent on campus, regardless, is never a bad thing.

Notre Dame will also has another important visit coming up this week. They will be welcoming former Rhode Island transfer defensive back Antonio Carter to town for a multi day visit. The Irish staff has quickly moved on this recruitment and have locked in one of the few visits that Carter is taking. They have clearly identified the graduate transfer defender as a player they want, and have a chance to impress later this week.

On Sunday and Monday, Notre Dame is also getting a visit from 2024 Omaha (Neb.) Westside linebacker Teddy Rezac. The 6-4, 190-pound defender was offered on Saturday after Al Golden visited his school this past week. Things are moving quickly, which should say a lot about the staff’s opinion on Rezac.

Among the talented players who were offered this past week, there aren’t many more talented than 2025 Roswell (Ga.) Fellowship Christian offensive tackle Josh Petty. The Georgia native is also a standout wrestler for Fellowship Christian, and is also one of the best offensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class. He gave some insight on the Irish offer.

It isn’t often that an offer for a 2026 recruit would be monumental but that’s exactly what we got for Carrollton (Ga.) High School quarterback Julian Lewis. He is one of the best signal callers in the nation regardless of class. This recent offer from Notre Dame was a notable one for the Georgia star.

Over the last couple of weeks, Notre Dame has received commitments from several top recruits in the 2024 class. Two of them came from the same high school as Charlotte (N.C.) Christian defensive end Bryce Young and wide receiver Micah Gilbert opted for the Irish program just days apart. Their head coach Chris James was nice enough to give some insight into what Young and Gilbert could bring to the program.

On Monday, the Irish also received a commitment from 2024 Chandler (Ariz.) High School safety Kennedy Urlacher, who is the son of former Chicago Bears All Pro linebacker Brian Urlacher. In an interview with Irish Breakdown, Urlacher gave some insight into why he chose the Irish and some deciding factors in his recruitment.

It wasn’t all recruiting this week, however. Last Saturday, the 2023 NFL Draft came to a close. In total, three Notre Dame players were selected, including Michael Mayer (Las Vegas Raiders), Isaiah Foskey (New Orleans Saints) and Jarrett Patterson (Houston Texans). Earlier this week, I previewed some players who could be a fixture of the 2024 NFL Draft class.
