No. 1 Point Guard Dior Johnson Blogs About Why He Committed to Syracuse...
Dior Johnson is a five-star point guard in the 2022 class and is averaging more than 25 points a game this season at Mayfair (Lakewood, Calif.). That's got everyone from Memphis to Arizona State to Syracuse, and many more, all in hot pursuit. Now, Johnson has agreed to give SI All-American exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a blog.
What’s up world!
I’m excited to announce that I am committed to Syracuse!
I went on an unofficial there last weekend and it just felt like home. I’ve known the staff there since the seventh grade and that’s when they first started to recruit me. I played in the same AAU organization as Buddy Boeheim, which is Coach Boeheim’s son so the staff was always around.
I had been going to their camps since seventh grade too.
I told the staff on Tuesday and they were really happy! They felt like my commitment would change the game for them recruiting-wise.
I’m actually from Kingston, N.Y., originally and that’s about three hours from Syracuse.
My visit was crazy!
The dome was crazy and the fans were the best!
I’m just really comfortable with the coaches and it just felt right. It’s not something that happened overnight; like I said I’ve known the staff for years.
The biggest thing that I’d say sticks out to me is that the staff knows me very well as a person. I’m from New York and have always been around so they know the true me. They love my style of play and they want me to bring that there.
I don’t have anything against the Blue Bloods, but I’m the kind of guy who wants to go to a school where I can play against them and beat them.
I want to create my own legacy.
It’s just more fun and more competitive for me.
I’m just built different. I want to change the game and change the culture.
I know people will think that this means that I’m gonna reclassify, but I’ll just tell you guys right now that I’m staying in 2022.
The other thing is that everyone is talking about the NBA changing the rules for high school players entering the draft by the time I’m a senior, and if that changes I’d look at all of my options.
What I can tell you is that right now, I’m 100 percent focused on Syracuse!
I’m already recruiting different guys and best believe I’ll get guys to play with me.
