Signing Day Preview: Michigan Football

SI All-American looks at the expectation for the Michigan Wolverines' class of 2020 headed into the Early Signing Period.

14 states are represented in scanning the Michigan football commitment list headed into the Early Signing Period. The brand has long been national and this class is a strong reflection of Jim Harbaugh's program.

Of the 25 verbal commitments, many have all but shut down their recruitment heading into Wednesday's initial 'Signing Day.' It means there won't be much drama with the maize and blue, who should be able to sign the bulk of the class by the time the ESP wraps up.

Michael Spath of the Wolverine Maven joined SI All-American on Tuesday to preview the period and review the senior prospects expected to enter the UM program in the New Year. Using the "strength of the Big Ten" to push outside of the region is one of the ways the class made up for a change of pace in terms of football talent in the immediate area in the 2020 cycle.

The bulk of this Harbaugh haul, which is reporting consistent solidity heading into the final hours of the process, is a reflection of how the staff attacked it. The accelerated calendar, Spath says, resulted in plenty of early recruiting movement for the program to the point that just about the entire 2019 season went by between their first and second most recent verbal commitments.
