Great-guy Yankees fan returns lost Red Sox World Series ring
If Yankees and Red Sox fans are working together and playing nice, what else is possible?
Last week, New York City restaurant owner and Yankee fan Luigi Militello found something unexpected in his restaurant's restroom — a 2013 Red Sox World Series ring.
"I was like, geez, it's big. Who would leave this here?" Militello told The Associated Press, via Boston station WCVB. "I'm a big Yankee fan. What are the chances of this happening?"
It was apparently left behind by Drew Weber, the owner of the Class-A Lowell Spinners, a Red Sox-affiliated franchise. He took it off and put it on the sink while washing his hands.
"I went looking around my apartment and started having palpitations. Sweat was pouring off my forehead," he told the AP. "I'm looking at my finger and it's not there."
Weber called the restaurant after midnight upon realizing his mistake. After Militello razzled him a bit as a Yankee fan, he told Weber he could come back the next day to retrieve the ring.
It ended up being a win for a few parties: Weber got his ring back, Militello has been invited to Fenway Park for the Red Sox's regular-season finale against the Yankees on Sept. 28, and Weber also donated to a charity of Militello's choosing, which aids relief efforts for Superstorm Sandy damage on Fire Island.
