Urbana, Ohio, changing name to 'Urban' for Playoff championship

The city of Urbana, Ohio, is changing its name to 'The City of Urban' in honor of Urban Meyer's Ohio State Buckeyes reaching the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Another day, another city name change brought about by the College Football Playoff.

After Oregon, Ohio, realized over the weekend that it needed to change its name -- the No. 2 Oregon Ducks will face the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes on Jan. 12 -- Urbana, Ohio, has followed suit.

Urban residents will also gather at a city sign Thursday morning for a brief ceremony, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Larry Lokai, a retired Urbana city council member and a fan who attends games dressed as Buckeyeman, will conveniently block the “a” in the city’s name for a few photographs and other festivities.

Meyer himself quickly caught wind of the name change. During his Tuesday press conference in Columbus, he responded to the news as such:

“You’re kidding,” he said. “Wow.”
