Wahlberg recalls that the group's members were the first stars to be a part of the halftime show, but says he is grateful ABC chose to instead run a news brief on the Gulf War, with Operation Desert Storm having been launched just over a week prior to the game.

The theme of the Disney produced halftime show was "A Small World Salute to 25 Years of the Super Bowl" and featured NKOTB singing "It's a Small World."
