Dodgers, White Sox battling scorpions at spring training
Warm-weather climates are a necessity for spring training. There's no way taking grounders in late-February Chicago weather is a good idea.
But now the White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers might be wishing they were back home—there are scorpions at their spring training facilities.
Like the Dodgers, the White Sox are camping in Glendale, Ariz., for the spring. The White Sox are surely happy to trade the weather in Cactus League territory for the misery that is Chicago right now, but it seems like team employees and beat writers might be having an oddly tough time coping this spring.
That would be Dodgers public relations manager Jon Chapper, reports Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.
At least the players are taking the obstacle in stride. New White Sox ace Jeff Samardzija told ESPNChicago.com all he needs is a black light for his newly purchased Phoenix-area home.
“[The scorpions aren't a] big deal really,” Samardzija said. “As long as they’re dead and on your floor, you can pick them up. But you always have to check your shoes is what it is. Every morning when you go to put on your shoes, shake them out to make sure there are no albino scorpions in there.”
