Bill Walton reaches new levels of weirdness during Pac-12 tournament
Bill Walton has turned his lovable oddball persona up a notch this season, leaving meandering birthday messages for James Worthy, and mentioning that he has "been milked" while announcing a game, but Thursday night he reached a new apex.
While calling the Stanford–Utah game of the Pac-12 tournament Walton went off on one of his tangents, sending birthday wishes to Jack Kerouac, Liza Minelli and James Taylor, all of who he claims have headlined in "the peaceful, relaxing meadows of the Mojave desert."
When his fellow announcer Dave Pasch tries to get the broadcast back on track, Walton springs his oddest moment yet on him.
It is hard to top yourself when you have just called Las Vegas "peaceful and relaxing," and called Jack Kerouac a "big time, headline performer," but asking someone "have you ever been to a volcano?" is as odd as it gets.
It was a great night for Bill Walton Bingo.
