Joe Maddon lost a bet and had to wear a Villanova sweatshirt

Villanova grad Matt Szczur and Lafayette grad Joe Maddon made a friendly wager on the Wildcats-Leopards NCAA tournament game.

Matt Szczur has guts. He's fighting to break into the Chicago Cubs crowded outfield, but he's still willing to give his manager a hard time.

Szczur went to Villanova, where he was also a star player on the national champion football team. Joe Maddon graduated from Lafayette, where he also played football.

The Wildcats and Leopards met Thursday in the NCAA tournament, so Szczur and Maddon made a bet. Szczur was at least considerate enough to give Maddon a point spread, though.

Villanova won in a blowout, so Maddon was forced to wear a Wildcats sweatshirt. Maddon was a good sport about it, though, and said earlier in the week that he wouldn't be upset about losing the bet.

“I won't mind wearing a Villanova hoodie,” Maddon said, according to the Press of Atlantic City. “I have some cousins who graduated from Villanova, and I was a big fan of [Olympic runner] Marty Liquori back in the early ‘70s.”
