Friday April 10th, 2015

Family members of late NYPD officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Mets home opener on Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Rubin.

Ramos and Liu were shot and killed while sitting in their patrol car in Brooklyn, N.Y., in December 2014.

The Mets are opening the season with road series against the Nationals and Braves before coming to Queens for their first game of the year at Citi Field. They'll take on the Phillies at 1:10 ET on Monday.

In December, it was reported that a foundation co-founded by late New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner will pay for the education of the children of Ramos. Liu did not have any children.
