Louisville man to attend 76th straight Kentucky Derby

Wednesday April 22nd, 2015

A Louisville man will attend his 76th consecutive Kentucky Derby on May 2 as a guest of Churchill Downs, Wave 3 News reports.

John Sutton, 84, first attended the race with his father in 1940, and together they correctly picked the winner, an underdog named Gallahadion. Since then, he has attended every Derby and collected every program. He also owns every Triple Crown-winning ticket for Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed.

As if 76 straight years requires any further context, Sutton's streak has lasted just short of the American life expectancy and spanned 13 U.S. presidents.
