Selfie sticks are a 'nuisance,' will be banned from Wimbledon

In the latest blow for selfie stick supporters, the suddenly ubiquitous photography "accessories" will be banned from Wimbledon during the June 29–July 12 tournament.

In the latest blow for selfie stick supporters, the suddenly ubiquitous photography "accessories" will be banned from Wimbledon during the June 29–July 12 tournament.

The Associated Press reported the news on Monday, saying Wimbledon organizers decided on the ban so that selfie sticks don't "interfere with spectators' enjoyment."

Apparently, the Wimbledon ticketholders' guide will flat-out explain the ban as follows: "In common with many other major sports and entertainment events and cultural attractions, The Championships will not allow selfie sticks into the grounds."

Indeed, Churchill Downs banned selfie sticks for Saturday's Kentucky Derby earlier this month—and it even went as far as banning drones, as well. No word on if Wimbledon will extend its ban.
