Scenes From the National Spelling Bee
Congrats to Vanya Shivashankar and Gokul Venkatachalam, who were named co-champions of the 88th Scripps National Spelling Bee. I was impressed with both winners, mostly due to the great shirt worn by Shivashankar's dad and this LeBron imitation by Venkatachalam. Highlights from the event included Dev Jaiswal's memorable exit, a judge name-dropping Drakeand this girl busting out a 45-letter word during a video with USA Today.
Poh the Dog's Big Adventure
Can't say enough good things about Thomas Neil Rodriguez, who took his dog Poh on a seven-week cross country trip after receiving a terminal diagnosis from the vet. The photos are everything.
Andre Drummond Goes to the Prom
The Pistons may have finished the season a disappointing 32-50, but that didn't stop one high schooler from trying to snag Andre Drummond as a prom date. Raquel Smith, who attends West Bloomfield High, asked Drummond back in January how many retweets it would take to get him to attend the prom with her. He set the number at 12,000. Raquel came really, really close (11,851 as of this writing) and Drummond obliged. The event took place on Wednesday (bizarre night for a prom, right?) and a good time was had by all.
Lovely Lady of the Day
Remember when Tiger Woods cozied up to a couple girls at his Las Vegas poker tournament a couple weeks ago? I knew right away that Tugba Ercan, one of the girls Woods cozied up to, had serious LLOD potential. As luck would have it, Tugba sent me a bunch of photos and made today's LLOD decision an easy one (click here for full-size gallery). Also, be sure to follow Tugba on Twitter and Instagram.
