Roger Federer honored Lleyton Hewitt by forgetting his home country

Roger Federer tried to congratulate Lleyton Hewitt on finishing his Wimbledon career but made a pretty big mistake in the process.

Roger Federer tried to congratulate Lleyton Hewitt on finishing his Wimbledon career on Monday but made a pretty big mistake in the process. 

Hewitt, the 2002 Wimbledon champ, had announced that this year would be his last Wimbledon. After he was eliminated in the first round by Jarkko Nieminen, Hewitt's former rival Roger Federer tweeted his congratulations to Hewitt on a fine career. There was only one problem: Hewitt is from Australia but Federer put an “NZ” next to his name for New Zealand. 

He deleted the tweet pretty quickly, but nothing slips through Twitter's fingers.

The N and Z emojis were Federer's downfall here, but we can thank him for prompting the creation of a popcorn emoji.
