Greenville, S.C.’s ECHL team has been known as the Road Warriors since it arrived in town in 2010, but to celebrate the team's commitment to the city, iti has a new, regionally inspired name: The Swamp Rabbits.

Yes, the mascot is a carrying a carrot/hockey stick.

While swamp rabbits are a real thing, Greenville is not inside of the animal’s primary habitat, so the moniker is actually inspired by a local nickname for a train line that ran from the city to the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The name seems unorthodox, but team general manager Chris Lewis believes it is the perfect fit for the community.

“We think the Swamp Rabbits will symbolize the competitive spirit of our players and the vibrancy of the community on the ice and off. We want our brand to best reflect what a night out at a hockey game is all about, which is fun and excitement for the entire community."
