Munenori Kawasaki’s English lessons are helping him make terrible puns

Toronto Blue Jays utility infielder Munenori Kawasaki has to be the most delightful player in baseball.

Blue Jays utility infielder Munenori Kawasaki has spent much of this season in the minors, which is a shame because he’s the most delightful player in the game. 

Kawasaki is, shall we say, eccentric. He warms up with a weird calisthenics routine, and gives the most enthusiastic interviews you’ve ever seen. 

He‘s still learning English, but he’s really eager to practice in front of a television audience. Now that Kawasaki is back in the majors, he’s back to spicing up his interviews with terrible puns. Here he is with Sportsnet’s Barry Davis.

To be clear, Kawasaki said “What did the buffalo say to his kids before they go to college?” Not, as Davis thought, “before they choose a cottage.” Davis’s interpretation makes it a pretty terrible joke. It’s actually really clever, though, because Muni spent most of the season with the Buffalo Bisons.

Bisons. Bye-sons. Get it? Yeah, it’s pretty cringe-worthy.
