Celtics Send 76ers Into Offseason With Vicious Tweet After Game 7 Blowout

After falling to the Celtics in a 112–88 Game 7 loss on Sunday, the 76ers were the subject of many jokes on NBA Twitter. But of all the online reactions to the embarrassing defeat, none may have been as ruthless as the one fired off by Philadelphia’s second-round playoff opponent.

The Celtics, behind a record 51-point effort from Jayson Tatum, sent the third-seeded Sixers home in a dominant outing that saw the East’s No. 2 seed lead by as much as 30 points down the stretch. After watching their team pour it on inside TD Garden, Boston’s social media team decided to keep the theme going by piling it on the 76ers on Twitter.

Moments after the final buzzer, the team shared a tweet that read, “TRUSTED THE PROCESS” alongside an image of Tatum hugging star teammate Jaylen Brown–a scorching hot mic drop to all Sixers fans hoping this would be their season.

Clearly not meant to be a subtle jab, the social team’s message, of course, borrowed the classic “Trust the Process” catchphrase familiar to many 76ers fans throughout Joel Embiid’s time in Philly. Not to mention, the star center and reigning MVP added to the lore of the mantra after nicknaming himself “The Process” in 2016.

As if having their season ended wasn’t already tough enough, Embiid and the 76ers will also depart Beantown still trying to process what happened while facing a new wave of jokes about their “process”. Meanwhile, Tatum and Brown–the third overall picks in 2017 and 2016, respectively–will lead the Celtics into their second straight Eastern Conference finals and a third ECF showdown against the Heat in four seasons.
