Tonight is your final chance to place a wager on the week 8 NFL slate, when the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-4) host the Miami Dolphins (0-6). It’s not the best matchup for television but there is money to be made. The Steelers came into this matchup riding a four-game winning streak against the spread. Times are bleak for the Steel City football team but they have been profitable over the past month. The Steelers will have Mason Rudolph, James Conner and Jaylen Samuels on the field tonight for their offense. The Dolphins are also streaking against the spread, covering their last two numbers. Miami will be without running back Kenyan Drake, who was traded to the Arizona Cardinals this morning.
The Steelers come into Monday Night Football as 14-point favorites. Although, as mentioned, they have covered the spread in each of their last four games, they were the underdog in three of them. Their lone victory as a favorite came at home versus the lowly Bengals.
The total in this game is 43.5. The Steelers and Dolphins are both in the bottom five in yards per game. When it comes to betting Monday Night Football, very rarely will I back a home favorite laying big wood. I also would prefer to avoid betting the same side as the public on Monday nights, and the Dolphins are backed on close to 60% of the tickets on this game. When it comes to picking a side, I’m going to lean toward the Dolphins; I don't believe the Pittsburgh Steelers are 14 points better than any professional football team. The only way I can see the Steelers laying 14 tonight is if Ryan Fitzpatrick plays so bad he is benched in favor of Josh Rosen. The bet I like the most in this game is the total, which opened up at 43 and was bet up to 43.5, even though they are two of the poorer offensive teams in the league. The Dolphins are banged up in the secondary and the Steelers have all of their weapons on offense for this game. I would bet over 43.5 and would take it all the way up to 45.
I would also make a few other smaller wagers on this game. I like the Steelers team total over 29, as well as the Dolphins team total over 14. If you like prop bets, I like Mason Rudolph passing yards over 230.5 and James Conner to score a touchdown at -165.
