GolfThreads: 2020 3M Open—Style Recap

Brooks Koepka’s footwear switch; Erik van Rooyen is the Kings of Joggers; and new sporty kicks from Adidas, Ecco and True Linkswear

Brooks Koepka (Nike)

Interesting that Brooks Koepka has abandoned his signature shoe, Nike’s Air Zoom Infinity Tour in favor of the Nike Tour Premiere that he previously wore. I have to assume it has something to do with his knee injury. I tried the ZIT and found them to be a little unstable (and a half size too small compared to other Nike shoes I’ve worn) which is not a good match for a guy with a lingering knee issue.

Chris Stroud (Oxford & FootJoy)

I do love a good striped polo. And the Oxford Brockton really caught my eye! Did you know that Brockton, Massachusetts is known as the “City of Champions”? Boxers Rocky Marciano and Marvin Hagler were both raised there. Brockton also has a storied history of shoe-making, in fact, it initially had the moniker “Shoe City” and was the home of the original FootJoy factory. I’d say that FootJoy is the “GolfShoe of Champions.”

Ryan Moore (Lululemon & TRUE Linkswear)

I have been all-in on what TRUE Linkswear has put out this summer. With that being said, I’m most excited about these TRUE Lux Pro. You can pre-order now with an anticipated ship date of August 18. Ryan Moore knows his footwear and he also knows what’s up when it comes to slacks. In case you haven’t heard, the Lululemon ABC Pants are the real deal, Shaquille!

Doc Redman (Ralph Lauren & ECCO)

Doc Redman is wearing the ECCO S-Three Spikeless golf shoes. These have been my go-to summer golf kicks. In fact, they are the only golf shoes I have worn this month. Admittedly, I think they look better with shorts than trousers, but an unbelievably comfortable performance shoe, regardless.

Denny McCarthy (Dunning & FootJoy)

I typically avoid all-grey footwear. It is difficult to find the right kit to pair them with. Denny McCarthy did it and did it well. The Grey FootJoy Contour Series looked exceptional with the Dunning Heathered 5-Pocket Golf Pant in their “Fragment” colorway. The exotic skin belt brought it all together.

Robby Shelton (Fairway & Greene & FootJoy)

Robby Shelton took the simple, clean, and classic look that Fairway & Greene has perfected and complemented it with a fun needlepoint belt. This is one of my favorite looks from TPC Twin Cities. I love the twilight color of these FootJoy 5-pocket pants.

Chase Seiffert (Callaway Apparel)

Don’t sleep on Callaway Apparel. This 3-Color Stripe Golf Polo in Boudoir Red is pretty sweet. They are also offering a new slim fit collection, Callaway X that recently grabbed my attention. Specifically the Shoulder Print and Linear Print polos. Check them out. You’ll see what I mean.

Erik van Rooyen (Greyson Clothiers & ECCO)

Does anyone wear joggers better than EVR? Is there a better pair of joggers than Greyson’s Montauk? Have you read “The Great Jogger Debate: A Definitive Statement“? If you haven’t, you should.

Tommy Fleetwood (Nike)

It was good to have Tommy Fleetwood back. His style was on point right out of the gate with the Nike DRI-FIT Vapor Polo and the AeroBill Classic99 Rope “Golf” Hat.

Henrik Norlander (Turtleson & Adidas)

It has been the hottest day of the summer here in Massachusetts and Henrik Norlander seems like he could handle the near-100-degree weather in this summery-kit. (Ironic, he’s from Sweden, too). The Turtleson Palmer Solid Performance Polo and Anderson Performance Pant paired with the Adidas CodeChaos Sport get a 100 from me!
