GolfThreads: 2020 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational Recap

Justin Thomas shows off winning look; Rickie Fowler debuts colorful Rise Up Collection; and Joaquin Niemann spices up wardrobe with avocado kicks

Justin Thomas (Ralph Lauren | FootJoy)

Can you say, “winning looks“? Geez…how about those navy Ralph Lauren trousers? Yowsers! Ralph Lauren NEVER goes out of style.

Cameron Smith (Original Penguin | FootJoy)

Cameron Smith fittingly wore the Cameron Smith Edition of the Pete in Paradise Golf Polo. This is exactly the kind of summery-fun polo that makes Original Penguin stand out from the crowd.

Henrik Stenson (Hugo Boss | ECCO)

It was great to have the Iceman back. Have I mentioned how much I love the ECCO S-THREE golf shoe? Exceptional footwear. I recently learned that ECCO is the fourth-largest leather manufacturer in the world! They make the leather straps for Apple Watch, BMW seats, Louis Vuitton bags, etc. I’d say they keep impressive company!

Christiaan Bezuidenhout (Galvin Green | FootJoy)

Galvin Green’s polos are starting to rival their waterproofs! Their AW20 lineup might be the best yet. I am partial to my namesake shirt, the Mike Ventil8 Polo. It reminds me of an inkblot image from the Rorschach test. When I see this shirt, I think of looking good while playing golf. Analyze that!

J.T. Poston (Vineyard Vines | FootJoy)

I’ve spent quite a bit of time this summer on Cape Cod and Vineyard Vines has captured the essence of summer on the Cape and islands. This Heathered Camo Sankaty Polo with the pink whale logo on the back just makes me happy. It reminds me to never take the ocean for granted. #EDSFTG

Louis Oosthuizen (Izod | FootJoy)

Apparently, Louis Oosthuizen has been wearing Izod this year. Not sure how I missed that. Seriously. One look at his derriere and it’s quite obvious.

Erik van Rooyen (Greyson Clothiers | ECCO)

I have been hoping that someone would wear the Under the Moon & Dreaming shirt from Greyson. The sliver of a moon on the left shoulder and the wolfpack underneath is art. This is the first time I’ve seen Erik van Rooyen wear the ECCO Spikeless S-Casual Golf Shoes on the course. These are another pair of ECCO’s that pair nicely with joggers. Pulling it all together is the Royal Albartross Beaumont Belt, which beautifully complements the entire kit.

Rory McIlroy (Nike)

A great example of how a belt can make or break an outfit. I will let you figure this one out on your own.

Rickie Fowler and Gary Woodland (Puma)

Rickie and Gary each are wearing a pair of shoes from the Limited Edition Rise Up Pack. This collection is meant to honor Puma athletes who compete at the most elite level, overcoming distractions, conquering the elements, and each week they Rise Up to the occasion. These shoes are bold, performance-ready, and clearly shine on the course.

Joaquin Niemann (Adidas)

July 31 is National Avocado Day. I had no idea. Had I known I would’ve celebrated with some guacamole. In other related news, Joaquin Niemann holds the title of Ambassador of Avocados for the Chilean Avocado Importers Association. Adidas recognized this special day and Niemann’s dedication to the fruit (yes, an avocado is technically a fruit) by making him a custom pair of “avocado” shoes.
