GolfThreads: 2020 Safeway Open Style Recap

Camo in wine country; Phil Mickelson rocks TravisMathew; Pat Perez laces up the Jordan V; and Kelly Kraft's crafty sweater game

Camo, yo!
Military camouflage patterns have been popular in fashion since 1915. Many clothing designers have exploited camouflage’s style as streetwear and as a symbol of political protest. When camouflage first made its way into golf fashion we at GolfThreads thought it was little more than a passing fad. Guess not. Camo has staying power and seemed to be everywhere at the Safeway Open.

Brian Stuard (Antigua | FootJoy)

Brian Stuard let the camouflage pattern be the centerpiece of his monochromatic kit. The shirt added great texture to his fit on Sunday.

Chesson Hadley (Peter Millar | FootJoy)

Chesson Hadley looks like he is practicing a military tactical maneuver in this picture. The Cape BluePeter Millar Cedar Performance Poloreally pops against his British Greyeb66 Performance Five-Pocket Pant.

Patrick Rodgers (Oakley | G/FORE)

Patrick Rodgers gave us two different looks at camo patterns. His teal Oakley polo paired with the G/FORE MG4.1 shoes in Birch was my favorite of the two.

Scott Harrington (G/FORE)

Even the soles of Scott Harrington’s G/FORE Gallivanter’s got in on the action with the Limited Edition Camo Collection. These are selling out FAST! No surprise, as they are a much more subtle way to add some camouflage to your fairway style.

I’ll wear what I want…

Phil Mickelson

Not sure what Phil Mickelson’s agreement is with Mizzen+Main but I have seen him wear the TravisMathew Heater Polo on multiple occasions lately. Can’t say I blame him. It’s become one of my favorite shirts this year.

Kevin Chappell

Kevin Chappell is another guy who I’ve seen wear shirts from multiple brands. I am a big fan of Criquet shirts and this Navy and Red Stripe colorway of the Performance Range Polo really caught my eye. For the record, I like the black Nike Air Max 1G with the white swoosh much better than the black version with the black swoosh. I never understood why they didn’t release this pair to us mere mortals.

Pat Perez (William Murray Golf | Air Jordan)

I love the Murray Classic Polo in Navy paired with the Raspberry Murray Classic Pants and the original version of the Air Jordan V (this is the shoe I regret missing out on the most this summer).

Kelly Kraft (Greyson Clothiers | FootJoy)

In Greg’s fashion wrap-up of the Tour Championship, he explained that blue is the trendy base color in golf fashion because it goes so well with multiple colors. The Greyson Clothiers crewneck cashmere Tomahawk Sweater in Blossom is no exception.
