2023 Wells Fargo Championship Full Field: Rory McIlroy Playing, Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler Aren't
With the PGA Championship coming in two weeks, most of the top players on the PGA Tour will come out for one final tune-up at the Wells Fargo Championship.
Quail Hollow hosted the PGA in 2017 (won by Justin Thomas) as well as last year's Presidents Cup, so it's one of the more prestigious regular stops on Tour. And it's being recognized as such this year with "designated" event status, meaning a $20 million purse with $3.6 million to the winner.
Rory McIlroy won the event in 2021 and is playing for the first time since a disappointing missed cut at the Masters. He was scheduled to play the week after Augusta at the boosted RBC Heritage but withdrew, and missing a second designated event meant costing himself millions.
The top two players in the Official World Golf Ranking (and SIWGR), Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler, are taking their one opt-out here. But the rest of the top 10 that are healthy and eligible are competing, including two-time Wells Fargo champion Max Homa.
