Best Golf Launch Monitors and Simulators for 2023

Paul Liberatore is the founder of Golfers Authority, which reviews the world’s best golf products and gear.

I’ve never tested as much golf equipment as I have in 2023. It’s not even close. But out of all the gear I’ve tried, I had the most fun testing out launch monitors. Seeing my swing and ball flight metrics in real time has taught me loads about my strengths and weaknesses and helped me formulate a workable plan as I continue on my journey to become a single-digit handicap by the end of the year. (By the way, I’m close and just need a couple of solid rounds to get over the hump).

And let’s be honest; launch monitors have proven invaluable for golfers of all abilities in their pursuit to get better. It used to be that getting better meant spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars on lessons, beating range balls until your hands bled, and hoping to see some improvement. Now, with launch monitors, golfers can see their information in real time and improve a lot more quickly as a result.

So, with that in mind, it would be helpful for our readers to highlight what I consider to be the best launch monitors in 2023. They’re much more accessible and affordable than they used to be, and their potential benefits are priceless.

What to Consider When Buying a Launch Monitor

I’ve said it before, and I’ll repeat it: Budget should be your first consideration when buying a launch monitor. Across the board, they vary a lot in price. So, before you think about anything else, figure out how much money you can afford to spend.

Once you’ve established a realistic budget, it’s time to start looking at launch monitors. The next thing you need to do is determine how accurate one launch monitor is compared to another. If you’ve watched any of my YouTube videos, you know there can be some significant discrepancies in the accuracy department.

Next on the list is ease of use. Some launch monitors have countless features and functions but are complicated to use, especially if you’re not a tech expert. Other launch monitors might be a little more limited in the data points they measure but are much simpler to operate.

You should also consider how you will use your launch monitor. Is it going to live solely in your at-home hitting bay? Or do you want to be able to transport it to the driving range? Answering these questions will help you determine how important size and portability are. If you plan on using your launch monitor in several locations, I recommend finding one that’s compact, lightweight and easy to transport.

If you spend a lot of time on a simulator, it’s essential to determine a given launch monitor’s compatibility with your operating system. Ensure the two systems can talk to each other, and you won’t encounter any issues. Now that we’ve established some essential considerations when buying a launch monitor, let’s look at my favorites for 2023.

Best Launch Monitor Under $2,000: FlightScope Mevo+ Launch Monitor

FlightScope has made a name for itself as a quality launch monitor that’s affordable.

I’ve spent a lot of time with the Mevo+ and like what it has to offer. This launch monitor offers more than 20 key swing and ball flight data points. Each of these metrics is made possible by FlightScope’s Fusion Tracking technology that incorporates 3-D Doppler radar and ultrahigh speed image processing. The technology is pretty incredible.

The Mevo+ also allows you to set up multiple cameras whose footage you can capture on any iOS device. This is an excellent feature because it lets you see your swing from several angles.

The Mevo+ is small and compact, too. You can use it indoors or outdoors. That’s a massive benefit as I split practice time between an indoor simulator and my local driving range.

Also included with the Mevo+ are FS GolfApp, FS Skill App and FS PC Software. This app lets you see your recorded swings, 3-D shot trajectories and more. From an analysis perspective, this feature is indispensable.

I give the FlightScope Mevo+ nothing but high marks. It’s affordable, accurate and has all the features you need to capture the statistical performance of your game entirely. (Get 15% off the Flightscore Mevo+ here)

Best Golf Launch Monitor Under $750: Rapsodo MLM2PRO Launch Monitor

I’ve been using Rapsodo launch monitors since their first one came out. And I’ve never been disappointed with any of their products. The MLM2PRO is no different.

What I love about the MLM2PRO is that it’s a launch monitor and simulator all in one. In other words, it not only measures all your key swing data points, but you can also simulate playing an actual round of golf on any of its more than 30,000 golf courses.

The setup is also super simple, with the all-new Quick Connect feature.

Compatible with both Apple and Android devices, the Rapsodo MLM2PRO is highly functional and affordable at the same time. I highly recommend the MLM2PRO. I love mine. (Buy it now through our partners at PGA TOUR Superstore)

Best Golf Launch Monitor for Most People: Garmin Approach R10

Garmin is a name golfers trust. That’s the bottom line, and it’s been that way for a long time.

That’s why I knew I’d be impressed when I tried the Approach R10 launch monitor.

Usable indoors and outdoors, this launch monitor tracks all the critical swing and critical ball flight metrics and records video of every swing you make. This is a tremendous resource for analyzing your motion and progress over time.

It also functions as a simulator and has more than 42,000 courses you can access. You have to pair the launch monitor with the Garmin Golf app on your smart device, and you’re good to go.

You can also compete with other Garmin users in virtual competitions when subscribing to Awesome Golf.

This launch monitor is one of the most accurate I tested, and I love that it also functions as an interactive simulator. When people ask me what Launch Monitor I should buy when they want to purchase their first unit, I almost always say the Garmin R10. (Get 17% off the Garmin R10 now through our partners)

Best Golf Launch Monitor for a Simulator: SkyTrak+ Launch Monitor

You need a compatible launch monitor if you’re fortunate enough to have your in-home simulator. One of the best choices for 2023 in this regard is the Skytrak+. I was lucky to get a prerelease of this unit; it was the second video on YouTube on the day it was announced. (My good friend Gabe from Let’s Play Thru beat me by an hour.) All I can say is that I was more than blown away and knew this unit would be the future of home simulators.

Its dual Doppler radar system is highly accurate and gives you many data points on every shot. The SkyTrak+ also comes with more than 100,000 preloaded courses, so you’ll never be bored playing the same track all the time.

I’m also a big fan of the shot-scoring system that gives you a grade on each shot you hit. This is useful in helping you determine your exact yardages with each club, as well as identifying strengths and weaknesses in your game.

New and improved from previous models, the latest version of the SkyTrak+ is the perfect launch monitor for any at-home simulator. This is the go-to for the best launch monitor for a simulator that will last for years. (Get 10% off the SkyTrak+ through SI Golf's partner)

Editor’s Choice: Uneekor Eye Mini Launch Monitor

Known for phenomenal simulator technology, I could not wait to get my hands on their first portable unit, the Uneekor Eye Mini.

The Eye Mini uses state-of-the-art dual high-speed cameras to track all the critical ball and club data during your swing. Club Optix technology allows the data to be recorded and displayed on the Eye Mini’s screen in real time. View software enables that data to be shown on your PC or iPad. The best part is to hook this launch monitor to a simulator or take it to the driving range.

Simple in its design yet high-tech function, the Uneekor Eye Mini launch monitor is everything you want from a launch monitor and more, making it my Editor’s Choice.

Best Golf Launch Monitor With Putting: GolfZon Wave Launch Monitor

As you can see, several launch monitors that function as simulators are out there. The problem is that most of them only work with full shots.

That’s what sets the GolfZon Wave launch monitor apart. Yes, you can use it as both a launch monitor and simulator, but it also lets you measure your putting metrics. As the saying goes, drive for show and putt for dough. Measured putting metrics include putt distance, putter speed, impact ratio, tempo, direction, ball speed, backswing speed and total putt time.

But it’s not just the putting feature that makes the Wave great.

It allows you to simultaneously play any one of more than 140 courses with up to six players. This is perfect for partner accountability, practice or on game day when you have a bunch of buddies over.

The Wave also allows you to replay video of your swing, take notes and even share your data with others. Small, compact and incredibly functional, it’s not a surprise the GolfZon Wave is one of the most popular launch monitors in 2023. (Get a great price on the Wave here)

Most Accurate Launch Monitor: Bushnell Launch Pro Personal Launch Monitor

No matter how many cool tech and design features a launch monitor has, the most essential characteristic is accuracy. Think about it: If you consistently get way off measurements, you will struggle out on the course when it matters.

Instead of relying on algorithms like most launch monitors, the Launch Pro utilizes high-speed, high-resolution infrared cameras to record deadly accurate data on every shot. In short, the Launch Pro captures everything that happens at impact like no other launch monitor on the market.

Small and compact in its design, the Launch Pro is easy to transport and set up anywhere you have enough room to make a full swing. I’ve even used this launch monitor in my backyard. I also like that you can choose three different software packages with this launch monitor—basic, silver and gold. Each one has various features and benefits and is priced accordingly. While the Launch Pro’s features are first-rate, its accuracy sets it apart. (Buy it now through our partners at PGA TOUR Superstore)

Best All-Around Monitor: FullSwing Kit Launch Monitor

One of my biggest complaints with the launch monitors I tested was that their charge didn’t last very long. It seemed like I was constantly having to plug them in to recharge. But that wasn’t the case with the FullSwing Kit launch monitor.

Endorsed by Tiger Woods, this launch monitor has an astonishing five hours of battery life. No different launch monitor comes close. But the kit also has a lot of other cool features going for it. Dual processors work to deliver shot data instantaneously. There’s no delay whatsoever. Speaking of shot data, the FullSwing kit measures 16 of the most critical data points and displays them on a vibrant, full-color screen for easy viewing.

Even though FullSwing isn’t a brand as well known as Garmin or Bushnell, I was more than impressed with the kit launch monitor. And let’s be serious, if Tiger Woods endorses it … that should tell you all you need to know. (Buy the FullSwing Kit Launch Monitor here through our partners)

Best Launch Monitor Under $600: Voice Caddie SC4 Simulator and Launch Monitor

Launch monitors today are much less expensive than when they first came out. But they still aren’t cheap, often costing a few thousand dollars. The good news is that some more affordable options are on the market.

One of those is the Voice Caddie SC4. Functional as a launch monitor and simulator, this device is compact and can be used indoors and outdoors. Doppler radar accurately captures important swing and ball flight data points in real time. The cool part is you can see all the information on the unit itself, which I love, or the app on your phone or tablet.

Plus, when you use the SC4 in practice mode, you can capture video of your swing and even share it with others. In simulator mode, you can play some of the world’s most iconic courses by pairing the launch monitor to your smart device with the MySwingCaddie app.

Even though SC4 is one of the more affordable launch monitors on the market, it has all the features and functions you need to improve and have a lot of fun. (Get the SC4 here through SI Golf’s partner)

Best GPS and Launch Monitor Combo: Garmin Approach G80 GPS

I know it’s a shocker, but Garmin occupies yet another spot on our list. The Approach G80 is a handheld GPS unit with a screen that measures 3.5" in width.

This GPS comes preloaded with more than 41,000 courses and measures key swing metrics like clubhead and ball speed, smash factor, swing tempo and total distance.

Practice and short game modes also make dialing specific aspects of your game easy.

The Approach G80 pairs with the Garmin Golf app and allows you to play in tournaments with other users worldwide.

Sleek, functional and affordable, the Approach G80 is an excellent option for golfers who want easy access to critical swing and shot data but don’t want to pay a premium price. (Get the Garmin Approach G80 here through our partner)

Most Accurate Launch Monitor Under $500: FlightScope Mevo Launch Monitor

As I mentioned, FlightScope has made a name for itself as a reputable manufacturer of modern launch monitors.

Even though their Mevo launch monitor is a few years old, it remains one of the more affordable and dependable launch monitors.

The Mevo can be used inside and out, measuring eight critical data points. And it does so with precise accuracy.

I also really like the Skills Challenge feature. It gives you access to fun challenges and contests like Long Drive and Closest to the Pin.

Are there more technologically advanced launch monitors out there? Without a doubt. But for your price, the FlightScope Mevo gives you accurate information and is easy to use. (Get 15% off the FlightScope Mevo here)

Best Value Golf Launch Monitor: Voice Caddie SC300i Portable Launch Monitor

Voice Caddie earns another spot on our list for good reason.

The SC300i portable launch monitor is hands-down the best value launch monitor currently available in 2023.

Using Doppler radar and atmospheric pressure sensors, the SC300i delivers a comprehensive slate of data points that golfers need to understand their game fully.

The SC300i also gives you voice output for every shot’s distance. I love this feature because I don’t have to break my rhythm by constantly having to look down between every shot to see my numbers.

It’s also nice that this launch monitor doesn’t require an additional app.

The Voice Caddie SC300i launch monitor is simple to use and gives you all the essential information you need at a price you can afford. (Get the Voice Caddie SC300i here through our partners at PGA TOUR Superstore)

Best Under $300 (And Biggest Discount Right Now!): Rapsodo Mobile Launch Monitor

Rapsodo made the first launch monitor I owned, and I’ve believed in the brand ever since.

That's still the case after trying out their latest mobile launch monitor.

This launch monitor is the only one that combines Doppler radar with your smart device camera to provide deadly accurate data, shot tracing and video replay.

The MLM also uses your smart device’s GPS to track where you hit every shot. At the end of your practice session, you’re left with a dispersion map of where every shot landed. This is invaluable in helping understand your tendencies and what you need to work on.

Better yet, all your shots are stored so that you can go back and analyze the data whenever you want.

If you really don’t want to spend a lot of money but still want the benefits of real-time shot data, the Rapsodo Mobile launch monitor gets the job done. (Hot Deal! Get 40% off the Rapsodo Mobil launch monitor at PGA Tour Superstore)

Best Affordable Golf Launch Monitor: PRGR Black Pocket Launch Monitor

If you’re in the market for the cheapest launch monitor out there, it’s the PRGR Pocket launch monitor.

This launch monitor uses Doppler radar and advanced algorithms to measure your swing and ball speed, carry distance, total distance and smash factor.

It’s also effortless to use. You must turn it on, set it on the ground, and start swinging. I don't use it much as a Launch Monitor but as a tool to measure my swing speed. However, it can get the job done. (Buy it here now)
