'It’s Completely Crazy': Celine Boutier Backs Up Historic Major Title With Another Win at Women's Scottish Open

After making history last week by becoming the first Frenchwoman to win the Evian Championship, Celine Boutier would have been content ending her 2023 LPGA season right then and there.

“I’m really good for the rest of the year,” she joked after capturing her first major championship victory by six shots.

But with her world-class ball-striking and hot putter on full display, the 29-year-old all of a sudden had other plans.

On Sunday at Dundonald Links, Boutier won the Freed Group Women’s Scottish Open, her second consecutive LPGA event, by two shots.

“It's completely crazy. I would have never imagined that I would be able to win not one, but two tournaments in a row, and yeah, I'm just incredibly in shock,” Boutier said.

"Yeah, I don't think I know what to say or what to think. I think it's just completely out of control. I'm not sure what to think."

With a final-round 70 at the revered links course, Boutier outlasted charges from Hyo Joo Kim, A Lim Kim and Ruoning Yin, the 2023 PGA champion. The three world-class contenders shot rounds of 65, 66, and 66, respectively, and put the pressure on Boutier as she put the finishing touches on up her round.

Boutier looked as steady as can be until she bogeyed the par-5 14th and the par-4 16th, which were just her sixth and seventh bogeys of the championship.

But the Duke University product bounced right back—just as she did so flawlessly at the Evian Championship—and holed a long-range birdie putt on the par-4 17th to all but secure the victory.

After tapping in for par on the 18th, Boutier experienced the ultimate déjà vu: Her LPGA peers showered her in champagne again, just as they did when she strolled to victory in Évian-les-Bains last week, giving the hometown crowd the sweetest result they could have dreamed of.

She might not have expected or wished for it, but Boutier will head to next week’s AIG Women's Open—the final LPGA major of the season—as a heavy favorite.

If Boutier thinks this title is surreal, imagine what she might feel with a third consecutive victory at Walton Heath.

“I think if I win, I may just retire,” Boutier said.
