Selected: By the Associated Press as its sports story of the year for 2019, Tiger Woods’ victory at the Masters Tournament, the wire service announced. The voters, a mix of AP-member sports editors and writers, selected Woods’ fifth green jacket over the U.S. women’s soccer team’s victory in the World Cup. Woods, who turned 44 on Dec. 30, won his 15th major championship and first in 11 years. The victory capped a comeback from offseason back surgery and ended a decade of setbacks that included the breakup of his marriage after revelations of serial infidelity, numerous injuries and a DUI arrest.
