Honored: By the Champions Tour as its player of the year for 2019, American Scott McCarron, who won the 50-and-older circuit’s season-long points standings. McCarron received the award Tuesday night in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, site of this week’s season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship. McCarron, 54, won three times last year on the senior tour and posted three runners-up among his 14 top-10 finishes in 26 starts, earning $2.53 million. Retief Goosen, 50, who won once and led the tour with a 69.14 stroke average while placing third in the season standings, was named rookie of the year. Balloting was conducted by the players.
