Western Golf Association scraps 2 junior events

Western Junior and Women’s Western Junior fall victim to coronavirus pandemic, but WGA’s top men’s and women’s amateur events remain set for July, officials say

Canceled: By the Western Golf Association, its two main junior championships, because of the ongoing effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The Western Junior was scheduled for June 15-18 at Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest, Ill. The Women’s Western Junior was to have been played June 15-19 at The Grove Country Club in Long Grove, Ill. The dates and site for the 2021 Western Junior has not been set, WGA officials said. The 2021 Women’s Western Junior is scheduled for June 21-25 at Aurora (Ill.) Country Club. The WGA has made no changes to its two main amateur tournaments. The Western Amateur is scheduled for July 27-Aug. 1 at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind. The Women’s Western Amateur is set for July 20-25 at Prestwick Country Club in Frankfort, Ill. The WGA also sponsors the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship, which will be played one week later under the Tour’s revised schedule, on Aug. 27-30 at Olympia Fields (Ill.) Country Club. The WGA’s Evans Scholars Invitational on the Korn Ferry Tour was moved from May to Sept. 10-13 at an undetermined site.
