Dustin Johnson WDs from CJ Cup after positive COVID-19 test

Dustin Johnson has withdrawn from this week’s CJ Cup at Shadow Creek after testing positive for COVID-19, the PGA Tour announced Tuesday afternoon.

According to a news release, Johnson experienced symptoms of the virus and was administered a test, which came back positive. He was forced to withdraw from the tournament, which begins Thursday at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas.

Johnson, the reigning FedEx Cup season champion and player of the year who is No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, was the betting favorite to win in his first competition since he tied for sixth in the U.S. Open four weeks ago.

“Obviously, I am very disappointed,” Johnson said in a statement. “I was really looking forward to competing this week but will do everything I can to return as quickly as possible. I have already had a few calls with the Tour’s medical team and appreciate all the support and guidance they have given me.”

Johnson, 36, won three times in 2020.

J.T. Poston, the first alternate, replaced Johnson in the field.
