Patrick Reed’s victory pays off for bettors
Refunded: By PointsBet Sportsbook, all pre-tournament money wagered on a winner other than Patrick Reed at the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open, according to a report by Will Gray on Rotoworld, a fantasy-sports website. The move, from the oddsmaker’s “Karma Kommittee,” came in the wake of the rules imbroglio that involved Reed and a drop for an embedded ball in the third round. After the drop, in the rough at the 10th hole at Torrey Pines’ South Course, Reed saved par and finished the round tied for the lead. He proceeded to shoot 4-under 68 on Sunday and cruise to a five-stroke victory. In the aftermath of the incident, Reed came under criticism for how he handled the incident. The oddsmakers at PointsBet Sportsbook, an Australia-based bookmaker with operations in the U.S., opted late Sunday to refund money to all bettors who picked a winner from the 156-man field other than Reed. PointsBet Sportsbook did not disclose the amount of money refunded.
