Dustin Johnson pulls quick reversal on PGA Tour's Texas Open at TPC San Antonio

Only 3 days after having committed to play, Johnson pulls out of this week’s event ahead of his title defense next week at Masters

Withdrew: Dustin Johnson, from this week’s Valero Texas Open, the PGA Tour announced Monday via Twitter, without explanation. Only three days earlier, Johnson had been a last-minute addition to the field after he failed to advance out of group play Friday at the WGC Match Play. He will be replaced by Ryan Brehm in the field. With Johnson's exit, No. 13 Tony Finau will be the highest-ranked player competing. Johnson, the No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Ranking and the PGA Tour’s reigning season winner, will be the defending champion at next week’s Masters. Johnson, 36, won the 2020 Masters, which was postponed from April until November because of the COVID-19 pandemic, by five strokes. Play begins Thursday in the $7.7 million Texas Open at TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course.
