Zurich Classic of New Orleans tee times

Partners Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay, both ranked among top 10 in world, headline pairings for team event

Southern Californians Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay will compete in one of the featured pairings announced Tuesday for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the PGA Tour’s only official team event.

Schauffele and Cantlay, ranked Nos. 5 and 10, respectively, in the Official World Golf Ranking, will tee off at 7:39 a.m. CDT on the 10th tee at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, just west of New Orleans. They will be paired with fellow Americans Bubba Watson and Scottie Scheffler.

Schauffele and Cantlay have some history in team golf. They were paired together for all four team sessions in the 2019 Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne in Australia, going 2-2 as a tandem against the Internationals before each won his singles match in the U.S. victory.

Spain’s Jon Rahm, who at No. 3 in the world is the highest-ranked player in the field, will team with American Ryan Palmer in defense of their 2019 title after the 2020 event was canceled because of the coronavirus. They are scheduled to tee off at 12:57 p.m. CDT on No. 1, with Sweden’s Henrik Stenson and England’s Justin Rose, both former major champions and Ryder Cup veterans for Europe.

The $7.4 million event will award a total of $2,138,600 – or $1,069,300 per player – to the winning team.

Two players have withdrawn: American Tyler McCumber and Ireland’s Seamus Power. McCumber was replaced by alternate Charlie Beljan, who will team with Matt Every. Power, who tested positive for COVID-19, was replaced by Zack Sucher, who will team with Davie Hearn.
