2021 Valspar Championship field: Top 2 in world to compete

Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas headline group that includes 7 of world’s top 20 to play at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course

The top two players in the world headline the field for this week’s PGA Tour event, the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Fla. Americans Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas, respectively, were entered for the event, which begins Thursday at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course, just north of Tampa.

Two other top-10 players, No. 7 Patrick Reed of the U.S. and No. 8 Tyrrell Hatton of England, were among the entrants. No. 15 Viktor Hovland of Norway, No. 19 Sungjae Im of South Korea and No. 20 Paul Casey, the defending champion from England, round out the top-20 entrants.

The Copperhead Course, a 1972 Larry Packard design, plays 7,340 yards and to a par of 71. The winner will receive $1.242 million from the $6.9 million purse.

Will Gordon and Brice Garnett withdrew after they tested positive for COVID-19, the PGA Tour announced late Monday. They were replaced in the field by J.J. Spaun and Tim Wilkinson, respectively.
