Jim Nantz Calling Fan’s Shot at Pebble Beach Is Best Thing You’ll See Today

You never know what you’re going to run into at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Sea lions and 50 mile per hour winds are always a possibility at the oceanside course, but apparently CBS’s Jim Nantz taking stroll with his morning coffee is, too. The legendary announcer, who lives just minutes from the major venue, went viral on Friday after he provided mock-commentary for one lucky Pebble Beach golfer.

For anyone who loves the game, playing Pebble is an unforgettable experience on its own. Now just imagine what it would feel like to tee it up at the iconic 7th hole with one of the greatest voices in sports analyzing your every move.

Shared by @jdprogolf on TikTok, the video shows Nantz—with his hot coffee in hand—giving one player his full CBS treatment. Several onlookers seem to be enjoying the spectacle as well.

“Tonight on CBS begins with 60 Minutes, and that’s coming up after golf. David Lorenz continues to lead at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am by one over Jon Rahm. He’s on the tee at the 7th,” Nantz said.

The golfer, identified by Nantz as “David Lorenz,” proceeded to strike his tee shot in the center of the face and find the front portion of the putting surface.

“Dottie, that’s a good looking golf swing,” Nantz continued. “Protecting that lead in the final round, let’s go back over to 18.”

The clip immediately made the rounds on social media, but make no mistake—Nantz has done this before. He narrated while golf journalist Alan Shipnuck hit a ball into the ocean back in 2019, and according to a clip from Kevin Clark’s “Slow News Day,” Nantz has called shots for several NFL players as well. Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert are just a few that have experienced Nantz’s live commentary.

“I don’t know, I just do it kind of instinctively,” Nantz said to Clark. “I didn’t know the word was out like that. Being at Pebble Beach, it’s amazing how many people come through. Every week you’ve got some big celebrity coming that way and oftentimes there’s a way that I get tracked down.”

Moral of the story? Nantz is an all-time announcer and an even better person.
