PGA Tour Lands Sponsor for Florida Swing Tournament

The PGA Tour's 2024 season begins in two weeks, and its entire schedule is now fully sponsored.
The Tour announced Tuesday that Cognizant, a business technology company, is the new title sponsor of the former Honda Classic, a 50-year fixture in south Florida.
The Cognizant Classic will be played Feb. 29-March 3 at the Champion course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
When the Tour's 2024 schedule was announced in August, the event was listed as "The Classic in The Palm Beaches" as it was not yet sponsored. Honda ended its streak as the Tour's longest uninterrupted title sponsor with the 2023 event.

The purse for the Cognizant Classic has yet to be announced, but the tournament is not a signature event that will pay increased dollars and FedEx Cup points. It falls on the schedule two weeks after the Genesis Invitational and one week prior to the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which are both signature events.
Those events will attract the game's marquee players and consequently few are likely to play at PGA National, though that was the case last year and the event still delivered one of the year's best stories when Chris Kirk ended a long winless drought by defeating Eric Cole in a playoff.
Cognizant began partnering with the Tour in 2021 as a Presidents Cup global partner and Tour corporate marketing partner. The Cognizant Classic will be operated by the Tour's Championship Management division, which oversees a number of events including the Players Championship and Tour Championship.
Come 2025, the Tour will have other sponsor holes to fill on its schedule. Wells Fargo announced earlier this month that it would not renew its sponsorship after 2024 of the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club, which this year is a signature event with a $20 million purse.
As the costs of business go up for the PGA Tour, tournaments in 2025 will be expected to shoulder more of the purse increases that have materialized in the wake of LIV Golf's existence.
